Greenwich
This Monday was a Bank Holiday, and Dad had a long weekend, so we decided to take a day trip to Greenwich. (That's pronounced "Grenitch" not "Green Witch" as I thought.) We woke up that morning for a delightful breakfast of bagels, but I burned the bagels, so they were a little tough. :) Then, we took the tube in to, Island Gardens, so we could walk to Greenwich through the foot tunnel. The foot tunnel runs under the Thames, but it was nothing spectacular, it was dirty and hot. But when you emerge, this giant ship, the Cutty Sark, the last of the tea clippers, greets you. Then, if you look of toward the Thames, a giant battleship is docked in the water. After admiring both ships, we decided we would go to the National Maritime Museum first. The museum had millions of model ships and figureheads. They had a few items from the Titanic, but my personal favorite was Horatio Nelsons uniform he wore at Trafalgar. It was so cool to see it. You could see the bloodstains and the bullet hole! Then we headed for lunch to a pub where Charles Dickens used to go, called the Trafalgar Tavern. We ate Fish and Chips that were delicious. Then we walked through the Royal Navy College, which was a really pretty college. They actually don't train the Navy anymore though. Our last stop was the Royal Observatory. We walked through the Greenwich Park to get there. A lot of the park was closed because of the Paralympics, but it was still pretty. Greenwich Park is basically a hill, so when you reach the top, you get stellar views of London. It was really neat to see. When we reached the Observatory, there was a really long line to see the Prime Meridian, so Dad and Jordan went to see the clocks of the observatory. When they came back they told us we had to see them because they were really interesting. But really, they were a little boring, unless you like clocks and figuring out seconds and what not. Anyways, we finally made it to the Prime Meridian and stood on both the west and the east side of the world simultaneously. Then, on our way back the the tube, I spotted the Fan Museum, we didn't go in, but it was funny seeing a sign advertise a fan museum. We finished off the day with Domino's Pizza, which was absolutely delicious.
